Family Matters

I’ve got a sign up in our den/family room that says “Family Matters”, and it’s true. There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do to provide for my family, protect my family and make sure that my family prevails. By family, as a single mom, I define that as my children. As a mother who works outside of the home full time these days, there’s truly a balancing act that happens on a daily basis.

I’ve got four kids: Two boys, then two girls. They range in age from eight to thirteen. Yes, I’m busy. Yes, I know what causes that. Yes, I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Sucking The Well Dry

I’m really, REALLY trying to not be a grinch this year. Normally, I love Christmas. I’ve moved twice this year, so let’s just say that even with a great job that I love and enjoy, I’ve spent a lot of extra money. The kids all started school in August, and we have been hit up since then with every single sort of fund raiser, field trip money, school supply list and sports needs times four.

Ok, I’m whining.

I am going to stop my little sob story and focus on what’s important. We celebrate Christmas not for the gifts, but because it’s Christ’s birth. I will make a concerted effort to refocus my attitude whenever I feel a case of “the grinch” creep up on me. I will remind myself that no matter what, I will create joy in my children’s faces on Christmas morning and that I am very blessed to be able to do so.

Holidays are stressful, but *I* will survive. How did you do?
